I’ve always got a lot on my mind the final days

I’ve always got a lot on my mind the final days of planning our Spaghetti Western Dinner. A lot that I’d love to share, but putting on an event & taking time to slow down and put thoughts into words don’t really go hand-in-hand for me.

14 years ago this month Keith woke up with a mysterious plugged ear. Little did we know it was the beginning of many difficult months as an aggressive autoimmune disease would attack his body - making us wonder if the Lord was calling him home. His prognosis wasn’t good; if he did live, life would be different. Maybe those dreams he thought God had put on his heart weren’t meant to be.

One day in May of 2011, Keith was sitting at his office desk struggling to get a bit of work done before going back to bed. This had become the new norm. He had been diagnosed, but continued to worsen. I got on the phone with the Vasculitis Foundation that day; the lady on the other end of the line didn’t know I wasn’t planning to hang up until progress had been made. I held onto her ear for over an hour while she patiently listened; by the end of the call she told me she would reach out to the Mayo Clinic. One of the nation’s top research doctors was there & she would make it possible for Keith to see him. About a week later, we made the trip to Rochester, MN & that was the beginning of a new chapter where Keith began to get well.

This week, exactly 14 years after his symptoms began, Keith is shipping calves in Montana. He was given the chance to pursue the dream God placed on his heart after all. I get tears in my eyes at the thought - first, because I’m thankful he’s still here with us, & second, because I know this isn’t the story for everyone. It’s what makes me believe we were called to host this fundraiser - to rally awareness & money for an organization that gave hope to Keith & our family.

The trials we face become opportunities for us to help others who come after us, & knowing that makes all of the effort that goes into our Spaghetti Western Dinner such a joy.❤️

Today, on this Veterans Day, we honor the brave military veterans of our great nation for their service and sacrifice.

2024 marks the 6th year of our Veterans Day Military Appreciation Project. Each year, we partner with you to send 200 FREE tees & sweatshirts to veterans & those actively serving in the US military - our way of saying “thank you, we appreciate you, your service & sacrifice has not been forgotten.”
•
Today’s project kicked off at 7am; available styles & sizes have flown out the door, but there is still time to get involved! I’ll share occasional updates today on availability at the end of this post.

Friends & family…we’re grateful for your support over the years, & can’t wait to see you again next weekend for this special event benefiting the @vasculitisfoundation! It seems like both a lifetime ago and just yesterday that Keith was very ill and the outlook for his return to health was unlikely. What an honor and joy for us to give back to the Vasculitis Foundation - so that others out there can have stories of hope like Keith’s.❤️

All are invited to attend next Saturday, November 16th, from 6-10pm at the historic Neuwaukum Grange Hall in our neighborhood. You’ll enjoy a delicious spaghetti dinner by @mamastortiniscatering, Dessert Dash with an amazing lineup of sweet treats, raffle tables for a chance to win great prizes, music by @deejaydaron, & more! It’s a fun, Western casual night that’ll fill your (Red Solo) cup!
