Grandma Campbell

In honor of what would have been my Grandma’s 82nd birthday today, I thought I’d share a few of the many things I learned from her.

You can never take too many pictures.

Showing up with a plate of dessert always makes you a welcomed guest.

Kids should be rewarded with a milkshake after every dentist visit.

Your mailman and garbageman deserve a Christmas gift.

Good grandmas carry gum, butterscotch Lifesavers, and Luden’s cherry cough drops in their purse.

Fill your calendar with birthdays of all your family and friends, even distant ones. It will be a sweet surprise to many of them that you remembered.

Take your kids and grandkids LOTS of places. It will teach them so much more than any classroom.

Every family should go camping.

Get involved. Don’t wait for other people to do it. But always put your family first.

Let people know you care in whatever way you do it best.

When you hide plastic eggs at Easter, make sure they contain REALLY great surprises.

Teach kids to dream big. Encourage their interests. Help them reach their goals.

People are what’s important in life. Your paper boy, neighbor, mayor, hairdresser, grocery store clerk…let them know they’re important.

Play more board games.

Bring your kids to the bank when they’re young. Open them an account and teach them to save.

Be generous with your money.

Kids and critters are a good mix. Every little boy and girl should know how it feels to have a newborn calf suck on their fingers.

There is much beauty to be found at the ocean.

Although Grandma left this world 13 years ago, her memory lives strong.
I’ve said it before, but it really can’t be said enough…grandparents are such a gift. I am filled with thanks for each of mine.
