Bringing Up Boys
Dr. James Dobson wrote the book Bringing Up Boys.
Keith and I were part of a Bible study group that read this book
when Clay was very young.
It didn’t take us long to realize that we had parenting mastered.
Clay was quiet, polite, and didn’t attempt all the dangerous things that other little boys did.
We spent the duration of that study patting ourselves on the back.
Then along came Cole 2-1/2 years after Clay.
We pulled out the book and took a quick refresher course for ourselves.
Still, not too shabby.
Fast forward 4 years, and our peaceful family of four welcomed Carson the Great.
I haven’t had time to re-read through even
the first chapter, although I’m certain I need it more than ever.
When I started this blog, Carson was 4 years old.
At that time, I was often busy looking for him in trees, protecting the pets,
and making sure the gun safe was locked. These days, it’s all that and much more.
Needless to say, we’ve found out that we don’t have parenting mastered after all…
