The Blessing of Grandparents
Grandparents are one of life’s best blessings and I can’t let 2021 slip away without sharing two hunting trips Cole took with my dad this season.
In November, they flew to Minnesota for their first hunting trip the same morning I was heading to meet Keith at the Bet On Red sale in Reno, Nevada.
They were able to hunt deer with my dad’s uncle Walt (Cole’s great-great-uncle) in the northern part of the state around Greenbush and Strathcona.
My dad took Cole on a great trip down memory lane, sharing the area where my grandparents grew up, where my dad was born, and where many of our distant relatives still live today.
Hearing about their trip took me back to the early 90s when I was a teen and I made this trip with my grandparents to the same places where I made such sweet memories that I treasure now more than ever!
Then, last week, as record winter weather hit our area, Cole and my dad went sea duck hunting off Whidbey Island for their second hunting trip.
Their hunt was a success; Surf Scoters, Harlequin, and even a banded Barrow’s Goldeneye.
The high winds, negative temps with wind chill, and ice-cold days in an aluminum boat out on the ocean did not compare to the time together spent doing something they really love.
We know all our boys will look back on their younger years with joy, having spent precious time with their grandparents.
Grandpas and grandmas have a way of making an impact on a kid’s life like no one else can.
